The University of South Australia was established in 1991 by the merger of the South Australian Institute of Technology and the South Australian Institute of Higher Education. It is designated by the Australian Government as a higher education school and is also listed as a leading university in Australia.

It is the largest university in South Australia. The University of South Australia has continuously become one of Australia's outstanding universities due to its research results in cooperation with industry.

The University of South Australia is actively establishing close ties with universities in Asia, Europe, North America and other countries and regions, and has extensive exchanges in teaching, research, consulting and continuing education.
